TRI has recently broadened its efforts to combat drug and alcohol use of children and adolescents by expanding into the field of education. Based upon our extensive work in the SBIRT arena, we have developed a screening and brief intervention tool to be used in schools. Students complete a brief tool using this multimedia system, and based upon their responses and our research-based algorithms, are led to a series of didactic sessions designed to educate and if needed, intervene and change the course of their alcohol and/or use. The program is currently being pilot-tested in schools in the New York Metropolitan schools, with further expansion planned.
At the college level – we offer a Brief Intervention Training tool for treatment counselors and college health officials, for use with mild or moderate drug-using adolescents, developed by TRI investigators. This six-hour multimedia CD consists of three individual sessions, and focus on motivation enhancement strategies.
