TRI is a leader in developing surveys and instruments for the substance use field, dating back to the 1980s when A. Thomas McLellan, PhD and others introduced the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) and later the Treatment Services Review (TSR). Both revolutionized research and treatment in substance use and are the most widely used assessment instruments in the field. TRI’s ASI DENS software program was developed in the 1990’s to administer the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) in a manner that is clinically and administratively effective
Other instruments developed by TRI include the Provider Survey of Incentives, measuring positive and negative beliefs by treatment providers toward incentive-based interventions. The Significant Others Survey measures the number and type of issues confronting family members and other “significant others” whose adult loved one is dependent upon drugs or alcohol.
